I have, on many occasions had people ask why I am such a fan of alternative medicine. They wonder why I don’t just use the “proven” western medicine.
Well the truth is, I do use western medicine. Read more…

I very recently acquired a case of POM Wonderful. For those not in the know, it’s a 100% Pomegranate juice from concentrate, in a cute little bottle as pictured aside. As anybody who has spent a bit of time on this site can probably figure out, I love pomegranates and I love what they do for you. So naturally, I was excited to get all of this in the form of a little 8oz bottle!

Food companies don’t want you to know that your food can legally contain maggots. Sure, the FDA limits the amount of these and other appetite killers in your food, that but limit isn’t zero. The following allowances aren’t harmful to your health—but we can’t promise that the thought of them won’t make you sick.
| Food |
Can contain up to… |
| Canned Pineapples |
20 percent positive mold tests |
| Canned Tomatoes |
5 fly eggs and 1 maggot per 500 grams |
| Frozen Broccoli |
60 mites per 100 grams |
| Ground Cinnamon |
400 insect fragments and 11 rodent hairs per 50 grams |
| Peanut Butter |
30 insect fragments and 1 rodent hair per 100 grams |
| Popcorn |
20 gnawed grains or 2 rodent hairs per pound |
| Potato Chips |
6 percent rotten chips |

I stumbled upon an awesome deal a while back. An 8oz jar of minced garlic for 99 cents. I bought several, because when compared to the price of garlic itself…then removing the need to mince it yourself it was irresistible.
Since then, I’ve been adding garlic to all sorts of my recipes just for the hell of it. I made these great garlic burgers with them. The first batch was way too garlicy, but once I got it down they were delicious.
So it’s had me thinking. I know garlic is great for your health, which is part of the reason I like it so much. When healthy food taste good it’s a treasure. I decided I should put this wonderful piece of produce in the spotlight. Read more…

I promised this blog wasn’t going to the blogger graveyard. And I meant it.
I’m sure most of you have written me off as gone, but after mentioning how busy I was, even more happened…including a move to a bigger house with a nice yard! (I’m totally getting a Basset Hound now, I miss my old buddy Rupert)
I promise I have been working, just not posting. I don’t want to be the blogger that shows up, then disappears again, with no real consistency. So I chose to go on complete hiatus, and make sure I was ready to come back in full force.
If you haven’t noticed, the natural health glossary is now up and running. It will also permanently be a work in progress. (Hey, even Webster’s Dictionary is a work in progress) I also have many topics to discuss in the near future.
So, if you haven’t abandoned me completely, thanks! And if you have, then you obviously won’t be reading this, so I suppose a followup would be senseless!
Bring on the love!

So surely you’ve noticed a lack of updates.
I have been busy with some things lately, and have also decided I need to shift more attention to my business and less time to my hobby.
I just felt the need to post this, because I don’t want people thinking Blogging for Health has died. It’s not going to the blogger graveyard, I just gotta alter my time spent. I do have a few posts coming up soon, and I plan on getting that glossary page done…so by all means keep stopping by, or subscribe to the RSS feed.
And by all means, leave me some comment love! Aside from the free link backs I like keeping in touch, and I’ll keep visiting your blogs

Or does it?
Almost everything we try to make requires some kind of ‘oil.’ And we have plenty of choices. Vegetable oil, Olive Oil, Canola Oil, and more. The problem with this is that some are very good for you, while some are very bad and the price curve is huge. For $2 you can get about the same amount of Vegetable Oil as you can get with about $6 for Olive Oil. A big enough price difference to sway many of us towards the cheap, less healthy versions.

I’ve had more than one comment about how there is no way to contact me directly on this site.
Now there is. Enjoy!
While I’m on the topic, I am also working on a ‘Glossary’ page. This will be an index of vitamins and supplements available, with a very short description of what they are for. Check back soon!

Ok so I know this was originally one post, but I thought it was long and drawn out…so I broke it into two, because I actually had more that I had forgotten to mention before! The first post is good basic information on Melatonin, now I’ll fill you in on what I guess you could call “advanced use.”

My entire life I’ve been riddled with sleeping issues. I don’t know that I have any sort of “sleep disorder” but I do know that it is very rare that I get enough sleep. I’ve always assumed it was because of my Type A personality, there aren’t enough hours in the day so I compensate by going to sleep late, and waking up early. Throw in the fact that I have a work schedule that always changes, my circadian rhythm doesn’t even know what’s going on half the time.
I use to take sleeping pills on a pretty regular basis. Not enough to get dependent on them, but whenever I knew I was going to have a hard time to get to sleep, I’d pop a couple. The problem was I’d wake up feeling drowsy. Sometimes I’d only sleep a couple hours at a time, waking up several times throughout the night. Then one day I discovered Melatonin. I still don’t get enough sleep, but I do get a lot more than I use to, and I feel much more rested.
